Yes I’m Korean, but honestly, I can’t say I’m that familiar with Korean cinema yet. So far, my favorite directors are Lee Chang Dong, Park Chan Wook, Im Kwon Taek, Yun Sung Hyun, and Hong Sang Soo. I’ve only seen two of Hong’s films but they both sort of made me speechless… Yun’s only directed one feature film so far (his thesis film ‘Bleak Night’) but that’s one of my absolute favorites. I only started paying attention to Korean films this year (I shamefully admit) and I have a LOT to see, so my answer will probably change, or maybe not, within the next few months :)
